Think like a president! Choose strategies to keep the federal debt in check as you play The Fiscal Ship, a game developed by the Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy at the Brookings Institution and the Wilson Center. As of 2016, the federal debt is higher than it has been at any point except around World War II. Those in power must make hard choices about how to reconcile value priorities such as retirement benefits and national defense with tax revenues and the future economic health of the country. Your mission is to do the same by deciding on taxes, spending options, and policy values to set the budget. To win the game, you need to find a combination of government policies that puts the federal budget--and The Fiscal Ship--on a sustainable course. Good luck!
